The Toyota AW11 MR2, sold in Australia from 1987 to 1990, is a true icon of the 80s… an era of cars that made the “wedge” shape popular! This particular car was purchased brand new and retained for its entire life by its original owner, who has now passed away. Because of this heady stint of ownership the car has remained in the extremely original and well-maintained condition that you are seeing today. Unmodified…Stock Headunit… Dealer fitted accessories…I mean, even the Toyota badging is all present and accounted for! We drove this car about 250km on the first day of obtaining it and it never skipped a beat. Toyota sure do build em tough! Now this car is not without its minor imperfections, as it has covered 200,000km without any major overhaul or restoration so, it does have a few little bumps and scratches – which could be left as-is to develop the patina and character fo the car, or fixed over time to bring the car back to its former glory. But it really is a great example of the model and could easily be driven out of our dealership and into your every day rotation! The MR2 was Japan’s first mass produced mid engined car. Yep. This exact model. Crazy when you think of all the fine MR layout vehicles that there are in today’s market. This was a big swing for Toyota back in the 80’s… and oh boy, did they hit. With its mid-engine layout, the MR2 offers exceptional balance and handling, making it a joy to drive on twisty roads or tracks. Affordable for its time, it delivered sports car performance with a 1.6L 4AGE engine and (relatively) lightweight design.
