This compact cruiser is a “Series Hybrid” – meaning that there is no connection between the engine and wheels; Instead the tiny 1.2L petrol sipping motor acts as a generator for the electric driving system. No more range anxiety or queing up for the charger, this champion can cover up to 1200km on one 41L tank of 91oct Fuel. In a conventional hybrid like a Prius, power is directly sent to the front wheels by both a combustion engine and an electric motor. With e-Power, the path is simplified. The combustion engine has no direct connection to the drive wheels. It’s essentially a glorified range-extender, cycling on and off to top-up the battery, always operating in its peak efficiency zone. The energy is stored in a 1.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which then feeds power through an inverter to an electric drive motor.
