S55 TWIN TURBO STRAIGHT SIX 302KW & 550 NM | BMW SERVICE HISTORY | RECEIPTS FOR $20K WORTH OF IMPROVEMENTS | STOCK POWETRAIN & SUSPENSION | EPIC SPEC | ENTHUSAST ORDERED, ENTHUSIAST OWNED AND NOW OFFERED TO ENTHUSIASTS!
Well, I think we may have just discovered “Peak-M2”. This aint no dealer demo my friends. Careful ownership, epic spec’d when ordered, full BMW service history and clearly cherished from day one, this M2 Competition ticks just about every box that a die hard fan may look for… low kilometres, BMW Dealer Service History, genuine BMW M Performance Accessories, Full-Car wrapped in PPF, murderous S55 engine and all complimented by the lightning fast 7-speed M-DCT dual-clutch transmission. Good for 0-100 in 4.2 seconds and absolutely embarrassing your fellow drivers anytime you reach a section of winding bitumen.
The F87 M2 Competition is increasingly being recognised as one of the best BMW modern classics to be churned out by the M-Division. It was the first M2 to receive the full-fat (if somewhat restricted) S55 twin-turbo inline-six from the M3 and M4, producing 302kW and 550Nm, and it arrived before BMW started making its performance cars larger, heavier and more digitally filtered. Result? PB’s or delaminated Michelin’s. Choice is yours.
While the current G87 M2 is still rear-wheel drive, the F87 represents the final evolution of the original M2 formula; compact dimensions, hydraulic-feel steering, a dual-clutch gearbox option and a level of driver engagement that many enthusiasts feel BMW has been moving away from. For many BMW fans, this is the sweet spot. If BMW “re-imagined” the e30 M3 today its hard to think of it emerging much different to this car.
This particular car has also benefited from more than $19,000 in documented post-delivery enhancements, comprising of $11,817.99 in genuine BMW M Performance accessories and a $7,475 matte PPF installation. The BMW invoice includes the M Performance steering wheel, front carbon lip spoiler and rear lid spoiler, adding just the right amount of factory-backed aggression without turning the car into something it was never meant to be. The matte PPF not only protects the paintwork but completely changes the character of the car, giving it a stealthy satin finish that looks absolutely spot-on on an M2. The result is a car that feels a little more special than the average example, while still retaining the originality that collectors and enthusiasts value.
The service history is excellent, with 6 documented BMW service and history entries across just 18,530km, averaging one recorded BMW entry every 3,088km. The records include the pre-delivery inspection, running-in service, BMW iDrive service entries and a 2025 Hobart BMW vehicle check.
It’s also refreshing to find an M car that hasn’t spent every second weekend trying to set a lap record somewhere. The current owner has attended one advanced driver training day and the car was originally purchased by a opassuionte mature enthusiast. The underbody presents exceptionally well and shows none of the usual signs associated with repeated circuit use, or general abuse.
Factory specification is strong too, with M-DCT and Drivelogic, 19-inch 788M Y-spoke alloy wheels, Comfort Access, reversing camera, electric glass sunroof, electric memory M-Sport seats (with lumbar support, heating, M Sport stitching and M-Sport belts), carbon fibre interior trim, Park Distance Control, adaptive LED headlights, high-beam assist, DAB radio, Harman Kardon audio, Apple Car Play, wireless phone charging and even road sign recognition. I’ll be honest…. could do without the sign recognition. Sometime plausible deniability is a lovely luxury.
The appeal here is pretty simple. This is a low-kilometre, collector-owned F87 M2 Competition with the right engine, the right gearbox, excellent BMW history, genuine BMW M Performance upgrades, documented matte PPF and presentation that reflects careful ownership.
Cars like this are becoming increasingly difficult to find because enthusiasts know exactly what they are. The F87 wasn’t trying to be the fastest BMW ever built. It was trying to be the funniest.
And that’s exactly why people love them.
Small enough to feel alive on a back road. Powerful enough to remind you that being alive is optional. Practical enough to use every day. And fitted with one of BMW M’s great modern engines.
In summary; We reckon this is right on the verge of peak M2.
