COMPREHENSIVE SERVICE HISTORY | 1500+km RANGE | PANORAMIC SUNROOF | 3.5t TOWING CAPACITY | WELL CARED FOR CAR, READY FOR ANOTHER LAP OF THE ODO!
Not every Porsche needs an enormous rear wing, a noisy exhaust and the ability to rearrange your internal organs under acceleration. Sometimes you simply want Porsche quality, comfort and engineering in a package that won’t frighten your partner, your accountant or the neighbours.
This Cayenne’s specification is best described as sedate. It is tasteful, understated and refreshingly free from oversized wheels, unnecessary modifications and complicated extras waiting to develop a personality. It’s the sensible Porsche—and we mean that as a genuine compliment.
Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 producing 176kW and a substantial 550Nm from just 2,000rpm. Paired with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic and Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive, it reaches 100km/h in approximately 7.8 seconds and has a claimed top speed of around 218km/h. Plenty, so we’re told.
That makes it quick enough to feel properly responsive, particularly when overtaking, without turning every trip to the supermarket into a qualifying lap. The 550Nm of torque also makes it an effortless highway cruiser and gives it a braked towing capacity of up to 3,500kg.
Official combined fuel consumption is only 7.4L/100km, falling to approximately 6.5L/100km on the highway. Combined with its enormous 100-litre fuel tank, that provides a theoretical highway range of more than 1,500km—although most families will require food, coffee or a bathroom long before the Cayenne requires diesel.
This is the second-generation 92A Cayenne, which represented a considerable advance over the original model. Porsche reduced weight by as much as 185kg across the range, improved efficiency and created a more refined and spacious SUV while preserving the steering, balance and road manners expected from the badge.
It is also a genuinely practical family car. There is approximately 670 litres of luggage capacity behind the rear seats and up to 1,780 litres with them folded. The rear bench can slide and recline, allowing you to prioritise passenger comfort or cargo space depending on whether you are carrying children, luggage or the consequences of an enthusiastic trip to Bunnings.
Inside, you get an excellent driving position, supportive seating and the distinctive aircraft-inspired centre console that made this generation feel especially premium. Everything has the reassuring solidity expected from a Porsche, but the restrained specification means there is less unnecessary equipment to maintain and fewer expensive features competing for your attention.
More importantly, this is a two-owner example showing only 97,000km, supported by a comprehensive service history. It has been maintained by respected Porsche and European specialist AutoTechnik for more than a decade—exactly the sort of long-term continuity buyers should look for in a premium European vehicle.
No older vehicle can promise a completely uneventful future, but this Cayenne presents a particularly reassuring case. Its modest kilometres, low ownership count, sensible specification and decade-long relationship with the same specialist all point towards a car that has been bought thoughtfully and maintained properly.
So, what does it offer? Porsche engineering, 550Nm, intelligent all-wheel drive, excellent touring range, serious towing capacity and proper family practicality. It delivers the premium-car experience without the premium-car theatrics.
It shouldn’t cause arguments at home. It won’t require a fuel stop every time you leave the suburb. And because it looks tasteful rather than attention-seeking, your partner may even agree that buying a Porsche was the responsible decision. Sedate? Maybe. Segway? Certainly.
