Powered by Toyota’s legendary 4.5L turbo diesel V8 producing 151kW and a mountain-moving 430Nm of torque, the 79 Series has become the benchmark for people who actually use their vehicles. After spending some time with the car, we can’t help but feel the Cruiser is kind of the Japanese equivalent to a Mercedes G-Wagon. Boxy shape, cult following, incredibly strong resale values, an absolute powerhouse and the sort of presence that makes everything else on the road feel… well, a bit soft. Except unlike the G-Wagon, this thing genuinely wants to get muddy.
This 2019 GXL Dual Cab presents beautifully and combines the toughness the 70 Series platform is famous for with everyday usability. Air conditioning, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, power windows and the practicality of the dual cab layout make it just as comfortable heading to work during the week as it is disappearing into the bush on the weekend.
This specific example presents in excellent, sparingly used condition. We love the graphite two tone colour scheme with colour matched ARB Bar and it’s hard to imagine an accessory you could want on a Cruiser that isn’t already fitted to the car – not to mention that it most certainly does not lack motivation. This car has no accidents in its history, is very clean inside and out, has had documented services annually (regardless of km) by a fastidious owner, no panel repair or paint work done and has passed a rigorous mechanical inspection by a third party marque specialist with only minor commentary relating to future maintenance/consumable items coming due.
