This XC90 is the very desirable T6 R-Design AWD, finished in elegant Savile Grey over a Charcoal leather interior. Its turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-litre engine has Volvo’s factory-backed Polestar optimisation, lifting output to an impressive 246kW and 440Nm through an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. It’s a big car but it sure does manage to bustle itself about with much more ferocity then you’d expect.
Despite weighing just over two tonnes and accommodating seven people, it can reach 100km/h in approximately 6.5 seconds. For context, that places it around a second ahead of a comparable supercharged Land Rover Discovery and within striking distance of six-cylinder contemporaries such as the Mercedes-Benz GLS450 and Audi Q7 55 TFSI. In other words, it can transport the entire family while moving with considerably more urgency than that which school run strictly requires.
This is also a particularly well-optioned example. The cabin features genuine carbon-fibre decorative inlays and the superb Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system with subwoofer—a combination rarely found on the same XC90. Add perforated leather, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, electric side-bolster adjustment, four-way lumbar support and memory for both front occupants, and it becomes a very pleasant place from which to avoid listening to the children.
Its specification continues with four-corner adaptive air suspension, Continuous Controlled Chassis, 22-inch R-Design wheels with 275/35 tyres, an opening panoramic glass roof, head-up display, 12.3-inch digital instrument display, nine-inch centre screen, satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, DAB radio and advanced voice control.
Driver-assistance equipment includes adaptive cruise control, Traffic Jam Assist, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, emergency lane-keeping assistance, traffic-sign recognition, front and rear collision mitigation, a 360-degree camera and semi-automatic parking assistance. Active bending LED headlights, automatic-dimming mirrors, keyless entry, a hands-free powered tailgate and selectable drive modes complete a very comprehensive package.
Family-friendly equipment includes genuine seven-seat accommodation, air-conditioning outlets for the third row, four-zone climate control, an integrated second-row child booster seat, electric child locks, rear window sunblinds, heated rear seats, an automatic load cover, load-protection net, 230-volt rear outlet and a proper temporary spare wheel. It even has illuminated R-Design sill plates, paddle shifters, black headlining, gloss-black exterior detailing and integrated twin exhaust outlets.
Most importantly, this XC90 comes with a comprehensive service history, demonstrating that its previous owner treated it as the premium vehicle it is. It presents as an exceptionally appealing alternative to the usual German seven-seat SUVs, combining real performance and luxury with Volvo’s celebrated approach to occupant safety.
